Career
Rhodes started his career training in Central
States Wrestling Alliace, in the Missouri area, in 1997. Rhodes then moved on to
World League Wrestling (WLW) and Harley Race's Training Camp in 1999 and began
his wrestling career in WLW. On April 11, 2000, Rhodes won the WLW World
Championship by defeating Meng. He then made a name for himself as part of The
Dupps, a hillbilly tag team consisting of kayfabe brothers Stan Dupp (Rhodes)
and Bo Dupp. As a team, The Dupps wrestled in both Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW)
and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). While in OVW, Rhodes teamed with Lance
Cade under his real name. The team was known as TNT. Rhodes signed WWE
development deal in June 2005.
On August 22, 2005 a promo was shown showcasing
Rhodes' debut along with the returning Lance Cade. Rhodes was repackaged as
Trevor Murdoch (the surname coming from his likeness to wrestling legend Dick
Murdoch), and the team was simply known as Cade & Murdoch. Cade is playing a
smooth-talking cowboy, while Murdoch appeared to be an angry Southern trucker.
Cade and Murdoch won their debut match on the on
September 5, 2005 episode of RAW. They defeated World Tag Team Champions,
Hurricane and Rosey in a non-title match earning themself a title match at WWE
Unforgiven. During the title match, Murdoch delivered an Elevated DDT on The
Hurricane to the outside. According to storyline, the DDT caused Hurricane to
suffer a "stinger" and allowed Cade & Murdoch to beat the injured Hurricane
later in the match to win the World Tag Team Titles from him and Rosey. They
would eventually lose their titles at Taboo Tuesday to Big Show and Kane.
Singles
Competition
On November 28, 2005 during his match against
Shelton Benjamin, commentator Joey Styles acknowledged that Murdoch and Lance
Cade were no longer a tag team. It was revealed on WWE Unlimited, that Trevor
Murdoch set his sights on Ric Flair and the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
On Unlimited, Murdoch has been reviewing movies currently playing in theaters,
such as Brokeback Mountain, King Kong, and Hostel. The first two movie reviews
displayed various sexual habits, while the third showed cruelty in his past. The
underlying point of all the reviews that Murdoch was trying to convey is that he
believes 'city folk' have quite an easy life, as opposed to his.
Since breaking up with Cade, he would move on to
wrestle in singles competition on Heat, normally winning most of his matches
while still making small appearances on RAW or reviewing more movies on WWE.com.
He would also have a short feud with The Heart Throbs on Heat which involved him
defeating both of them in singles action and gaining a spot in the Royal Rumble
as a result of defeating Antonio. He competed in the 2006 Royal Rumble despite
not winning it.
He would then move on to a short feud with Goldust
but was unsuccessful in beating him and ended up feuding with both Goldust and
Goldust's tag partner Snitsky. This lead to him helping former partner Cade win
his matches and hinted at the two of them reforming their team.
The
Band is Back Together
During an episode of RAW shortly before
Wrestlemania 22, Murdoch and Cade reunited by helping Chris Masters and Carlito
attack Kane backstage. On the April 14, 2006 edition of HEAT, it was announced
that Cade & Murdoch were reuniting as a tag team and on the May 19th, 2006
edition of WWE HEAT Cade and Murdoch officially reformed their tag team by
facing Charlie Haas and Viscera and defeated them. Then on the June 2, 2006
edition of Heat he and Cade defeated Goldust and Snitsky.
On the June 5, 2006 edition of RAW he challenged
Kane to face his partner Cade(Now with black hair, explained as him wanting to
go back to his natural redneck roots according to a WWE.com interview) in a
singles match and despite Kane dominating the whole match, Kane would end up
leaving the match because of the "Imposter Kane" and give Cade the win via
countout. After the match, Murdoch would state "The band is back together".
Personal Life
Rhodes is married to Stephanie Beaton, they were
married on June 28, 2003.
Trivia
Rhodes has a tatoo of the Tazmanian Devil from
Looney Tunes on his right upper bicep.
On the figure of Rhodes he has the
The_Tasmanian_Devil on his figure unlike the Tazz internet exclusive figure that
is very wierd as to the Tazz figure not having his Tazmanian Devil because of
legal issues.
A common misconseption is that Rhodes is the son of
Dick Murdoch. However they are not related in any way - Trevor merely took the
name when a physical and facial similarity was noticed between the two
wrestlers.
Another misconception is that Rhodes is the son of
Dusty Rhodes. This is not true as well. Dusty Rhodes real last name is Runnels.
Quotes
"Ya'll think about that!"
"My names Trevor Murdoch, and I wanna tell you

"Nobody is as tough as my partner Lance Cade."
