Take a time-trip back to the wide lapels and bell bottoms of the '70s in one of
that decade's biggest comedy hits! Teacher Gabe Kotter (Gabe Kaplan) returns to
his former high school, teaching the remedial class--of which he had been a
member--known as the "sweathogs." But, for some reason, the lovable losers and
delinquents of Buchanan High accept their new teacher as they provide a nonstop
string of laughs on Welcome Back, Kotter. This compilation brings you the hit
series for the first time ever on DVD!
Our Review
of Title
 An embarrassing confession - I had a
T-Shirt back in the 70's with a picture of
John Travolta that said "Up Your Nose With A Rubber Hose." But then
again, so were many other kids back then (at least I didn't have a Henry Winkler
Fonz shirt that said "Ayyyy"). But that was how popular this show was.
Before John Travolta became John Travolta, he was just known as Vinny Barbarino,
the leader of a high school group of misfits known as the Sweathogs in Brooklyn,
New York. Vinny and his crew (Freddie "Boom-Boom" Washington, Juan "I've
got a note from my mother" Epstein and Arnold "Oooh, Oooh, Oooh" Horshak) get
themselves into various situations that need the help and guidance of their
teacher Mr. Kotter (Gabe Kaplan). Mr. Kotter was a former Sweathog who has come
back to teach in his alma matta.
Although the themes for many of the episodes were not original, it was the
side-skits and characters that endeared you to the show. These guys were
either people you went to school with, guys you wanted to be like, or maybe it
reminded you of yourself, but you always wanted to see and hear more. This
is especially true in this first season in which we are first introduced to the
cast and learn about who they are.
