WARNER HOME VIDEO RELEASES THE SIXTH AND FINAL SEASON OF THE FLINTSTONES ON DVD SEPTEMBER 5
Season six of The Flintstones explored every realm of popular parody spoofing “trendy” TV shows, award-winning movies, and Hollywood royalty. Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York lend their voices in Samantha, the stone-aged version of Bewitched, while My Fair Freddy allows Fred Flintstone to step into Audrey Hepburn’s role, and Tony Curtis provides vocals to the title character in Return of Stoney Curtis. Plus, with Bedrock’s newest character, space alien Gazoo, introduced in this final season, The Flintstones: The Complete Sixth Season is packed with over 12 hours of yabba-dabba-doo fun that is sure to both tickle adults and delight kids.
Bonus material includes The Flintstones Meets Pop Culture, a featurette hosted by Stephen Baldwin, one of the many actors who have portrayed Barney Rubble. This piece reveals how pop culture was incorporated into The Flintstones and how the show itself ultimately became a part of pop culture. Also included is The Great Gazoo – From A to Zetox, which features newly uncovered history on the creation of the The Flintstones’ most famous guest stars.
WHV will support the release of The Flintstones: The Complete Sixth Season by implementing a national consumer advertising campaign targeting online media outlets.
Our Review of The Flintstones Season Six This was one series I could not wait to review. I had very fond memories as a kid watching this cartoon with my family during dinner, or coming home from school and putting it on in the 1970s. As a child, it was fun to watch. Names like Stoney Curtis did not mean very much to me back then. Even though the four main characters, Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty were all big people (adults) and Pebbles and Bam-Bam were babies, I was still able to connect to them on some level.
Watching this again, and having my own children watch the episodes was really amazing. However, today I look at the cartoon in a different light. Yes, it still holds the same entertainment value, but now I am able to understand some of the higher level jokes and concepts being introduced by the writes, yet still remain hidden to the children. As a child the Great Gazoo was just a crazy friend who came from another planet, but I see him more like a conscience and a teacher to Fred and Barney. Speaking of Gazoo, that was one of the best parts about this sixth season, that is where we were introduced to the Great Gazoo. I liked him from the start and still do, although I know that other's think of him as the Scrappy Doo of the late 1960s.
The show was only on for six years and the last season was probably one of the six best seasons available. Now I am going to have to go out and purchase the other five. But honestly, If you were a fan of The Flintstones growing up, this DVD is a must. If you have kids, this is a great way to share the fun of your youth with them - I explained that this was like Spongebob Squarepants when I was their age.
The four disks are crammed with all 26 episodes from the final season with two pretty cool special features. One feature is entitled The Flintstones Meet Pop Culture and was very interesting to show how things going on in the world affected what was going on in Bedrock, and vice-versa. The other feature entitled The Great Gazoo – From A to Zetox was great, but it was way too short - I would have liked to know a little more about the creation and history of the Great Gazoo. |
