Calvin Brock is an enigma in boxing terms. He’s a fighter with an education. Most men who lace up a pair of gloves for a living do it as a means of improving ‘their lot’ in life. Poverty and desperation fuels an engrained desire to inflict pain on any man who dares share the same ring as them.
This is not the case for Calvin Brock. Brought up in a deeply religious, close knit family, he thrived in the school environment, and went onto complete a Finance degree at university, and has since made a name for himself as a financial ‘whiz’.
But it’s his wizardry between the ropes that has seen his stock rise to the top of the heavyweight division.
After investing in a productive amateur career that paid the ultimate dividend – representing his country at 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Brock embarked on a professional career that has seen him compile an impressive undefeated record.
Combining exceptional boxing skills, with a fair sting in his punch, he’s continued to build momentum in a career that is now in its fifth year.
The first indication that he was a fighter to watch came with his decisive victory over contender Jameel McCline. He backed up that eye-catching display in his most recent outing, when he beat the previously undefeated Eastern European hardman, Timor Ibragimov.
