PASADENA, CA, January 9, 2007
– A&E Network delves inside the lives of Tinseltown’s well-heeled offspring with
SONS OF HOLLYWOOD, a new half-hour original real-life series. Set
to premiere with two back-to-back episodes on Sunday, April 1 @ 10 PM ET,
the 12-episode weekly series follows the daily lives of three childhood friends
as they attempt to conquer the entertainment business by day and the Hollywood
scene by night.
“A perfect addition to A&E’s signature
real-life brand – SONS OF HOLLYWOOD offers an unflinching and compelling
look at three childhood friends who face the typical triumphs and tragedies of
young adulthood in an atypical world that is complicated not only by their
location but by their lineage,” said Bob DeBitetto, Executive Vice President
and General Manager, A&E Network.
SONS OF HOLLYWOOD is a real-life series that
tracks the daily lives of three scions of Hollywood: Randy Spelling, son
of the prolific television producer, the late Aaron Spelling; Sean Stewart,
son of music legend Rod Stewart; and
rising talent manager David Weintraub. At first glance these
friends are living the dream – they boast impressive pedigrees, inside
connections and outrageous social lives. But scratch under the surface and all
that glitters is not necessarily gold. The series follows the trio as they
attempt to step out from the imposing shadows of their parents and forge their
own identities.
SONS OF HOLLYWOOD kicks off with the three
friends moving out of their family mansions and in together for the summer.
Viewers are given unprecedented access to the raw drama and moments of true
comedy the trio experiences as they try to carve their paths in the world. The
warts-and-all series exposes the intimate relationship dynamics between the sons
and their famous fathers, reveals day-to-day drama with friends and family,
unmasks career pressures, takes a look at a personal struggle with sobriety and
witnesses the tragedy that befalls Randy Spelling when his father passes away in
the midst of filming the show.
SONS OF HOLLYWOOD is a production of iCandy TV.
JT Taylor is executive producer and co-creator and Brent Wilson is supervising
producer. David Weintraub is a co-creator and producer. Randy Spelling and Sean
Stewart also serve as producers on the series. Robert Sharenow and Michael
Morrison are executive producers for A&E Network.

Our Review of the Show
What a bunch of
spoiled, over-privileged kids. I guess it is because of their money and
their parent's fame that makes this show interesting. If there was a
reality show about me going about my daily chores, no one would care - but if my
father was Rod Stewart or Aaron Spelling, you
might want to know a little more about me - and you would probably think that my
life was a bit more interesting than most. That, unfortunately, is true on
all counts.
This series is the
story of three young men with David Weintraub, talent manager (and co-producer
of this show) as the nucleus that brings the recovering drug addict and son of a
rock star and model Sean Stewart together with Randy Spelling the son of
Hollywood producer and multi-millionaire Aaron Spelling together under his wing.
What makes this
show entertaining is that we get a glimpse of what really goes on where the
grass truly is greener. How would you act if your father was rich and
famous? Sean Stewart seems to be the stereotypical rock star kid that
tried to follow in his father's footsteps, but got lost along the way.
Sean seems to be interested in three things: sex, music and drinking (although
we do not get much of a taste of music in the first episode).
Blowing a few grand at a card table means little to him, until he has to use a
voucher for breakfast the next morning. Could you see a celebrity using a
comp to pay for their breakfast?
Randy Spelling is
much more reserved and did not fill my expectations of what a guy with a very,
very rich father would be like. The first episode does get a little bit
into his personal family life, which is something that we want to know more
about - the real celebrity parent. Sean does talk to his mom (Alana
Stewart), but we do not learn much about the family.
The show is
supposed to be about how David Weintraub tries to make these two young in the
dog eat dog world of Hollywood -- Sean as a musician and Randy as an actor. The
first episode is more about the people themselves and the work of making them
into stars is to be developed, I think, in later episodes. The series
provides viewers with a voyeur's look into the lives of people many of us only
read about and provides us with much needed entertainment. The show is
definitely worth watching and will keep you wanting to see the next episode.
