each episode as Pinky and the Brain take on each attempt with a dry wit and
humor and likely a parody of other media. 22 Episodes from the Emmy® Award
Winning Series for the first time on DVD.
Our Review
of Title
The animated cartoon series Pinky and
the Brain may be summed up by one line of the opening theme song: "[o]ne is a
genius, the other's insane." However, looking back at the show, it may be hard
to determine which one is really insane.
Both are lab mice that were provided with intelligence from a research
experiment. The Brain was given super intelligence, while Pinky was only
provided with a minimal amount of "smarts." Together they form a great
tandem of characters. In each episode, Brain tries to formulate then act
upon a scheme to take over the world. Pinky, who is very good natured and
not very smart is his assistant who usually unintentionally messes up the plans
by trying to do good. So who is the song talking about? Is it the
lovable Pinky that is insane, or is it the mouse bent on world domination that
is the sane one?
From what started as just another short on
Animaniacs, this cartoon duo was
given their own show (yes, I know, they are not real) and made a stab at it on
their own. The show was good until they began adding the Elvira character
into the skits. Luckily for us, this DVD includes 22 all-new Elvira free
episodes of pure world dominating entertainment. I enjoyed them --
and why? Because it was just enjoyable to lose yourself in their cartoon world.
As an FYI, also catch the bonus feature It's About the Fans where we hear
from the voices of this animated comedy duo - Rob Paulsen (Pinky) and Maurice
LaMarche (Brain).
