Paranormal State
The first two cases in A&E’s Paranormal State premiere, with limited commercial interruption on December 10th at 10 PM ET on A&E. Join Ryan Buell and his team of paranormal researchers as they investigate their first mysterious happenings in two back-to-back episodes.
First, in “Sixth Sense,” a worried mother calls the Paranormal Research Society (PRS) to help her son Matthew, a boy who sees dead people. Matthew's story strikes a chord with Ryan - who also experienced paranormal activity as a child. Ryan investigates, and discovers that "Timmy", the spirit Matthew sees most often, could actually be the spirit of a neighbor who died on the property years before the family moved there. When Ryan shows Matthew a picture of the real Timmy, the boy identifies him immediately!
In the second episode, “The Name,” airing at 10:30pm ET Ryan and company enlist the assistance of psychic Chip Coffey to help a single Mom who is experiencing paranormal activity in a home that was once the site of brutal murders. But the case is turned upside down when it's discovered that Ryan himself is the target of a taunting demon whose name spells pure evil. PARANORMAL STATE
A&E NEW REAL-LIFE SERIES CHRONICLES THE CASE FILES OF PARANORMAL RESEARCH SOCIETY OF PENN STATE UNIVERSITY
PREMIERING MONDAY, DECEMBER 10th @ 10 PM ET/PT
New York, NY – October 31, 2007- Premiering December 10th at 10PM ET/PT with back-to-back episodes, A&E will chronicle the case files of the Paranormal Research Society (PRS), a renowned group comprised of Penn State University college students, in the dramatic new Real-Life series PARANORMAL STATE.
Penn State University student Ryan Buell gets a call from a client telling him that her eight-year-old son is seeing dead people in the family’s new home. Ryan has a deep connection to this child before they even meet, as he too was terrified by paranormal experiences as a kid. Ryan and the PRS team travel to the client’s home, interview the family and child and investigate to determine if there is evidence of paranormal activity or if what they are witnessing is just the imagination of a child. As if this wasn’t enough for a paranormal investigator to handle, Ryan must be back in time for his Economics class the next morning.
Ryan Buell is clearly no ordinary college student. He’s the director/founder of PRS and the central character in PARANORMAL STATE. Ryan and his college-age team of paranormal investigators spend their time investigating the strange and bizarre while trying to find balance within their young adult lives. And it’s never easy. The PRS team, which Ryan started in 2001, has worked on cases involving demonic possession and exorcism, assisted law enforcement on missing person’s cases, and have brought peace to frightened families.
PARANORMAL STATE, from the producers of Laguna Beach, follows Ryan and the PRS as they set out on cases throughout the country. Through the use of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) recordings, client interviews, video documentation, old-fashioned research and the help from outside experts such as renowned psychics, demonologists and Penn State University psychologists and counselors, Ryan Buell and the PRS team delve dangerously into other worlds to try and help people who have no one else to turn to.
PARANORMAL STATE is produced by Four Seasons Productions Intl and Go Go Luckey! Productions for A&E Networks. Gary Auerbach, Julie Auerbach and Betsy Schechter are the executive producers. A&E executive producers are Robert Sharenow and Elaine Frontain Bryant.

Our Review of Paranormal State
It is a very interesting series. The name itself got my attention when I first heard about it. I am one of the 73% of the believers, and have even had my own ghostly dealings myself. We are only on this earth for such a short time, so there has got to be somewhere where "we" - our beings - go to afterwards. I cannot believe that we just end. I cannot get enough of these paranormal shows, so one more seemed like a treat.
The show focuses on a group of college kids from Penn State that started a paranormal club where they go around and investigate strange happenings. I would never have thought about doing something like this while I was in college - so the whole concept is kind of fresh. This group of paranormal researchers take on cases and go out on location to investigate. One aspect of their approach (or at least the head researcher that started the group) is that regardless if the occurrences they are investigating are real or not, the person or family is asking for help, and they are there to provide it.
The cinematography and pace of the show unfortunately is not fresh, it follows the same routine as almost every reality type show on TV today. They have the cameras set up to catch all of the occurrences, there is a time/date stamp or name title displaying, and the occasional comments in-between. However, in a show like this, it is the "story" that counts, and now how it it being filmed. Also, the group of investigators are college kids, and although most act very professional, it is very evident throughout.
From what I saw, the episodes are interesting and did hold my attention, but sometimes it could be a bit overdramatic. A good show all-in-all, and I will at least watch through the end of the first season.
