New Series on the History Channel

Beginning July 29th at 9pm/8c

Visit the History Channel's Jurassic Fight Club Mini Site

dinosaur pictureJURASSIC FIGHT CLUB premieres Tuesday, July 29th at 9pm/8c and will showcase dinosaurs in a completely new light.  They were the ultimate fighters—prehistoric monsters who reigned over the earth millions of years ago, terrifying and dominating the globe like no creatures before or since.  In a world with only one rule—kill or be killed—these ferocious beasts hunted their prey with cunning and strategy, transforming their prehistoric habitat into an epic and bloody battlefield, leaving behind massive graveyards of bones and other remains.  Today, archaeologists are uncovering these primeval combat zones—and are gaining startling new insight into how quick-thinking, maneuverability, brute force, and razor-sharp claws separated the weak from the mighty and the dead from the living in an era when only the strong survived.

Each episode will dissect these devastating battles, uncovering a predatory world far more calculated and complex than anyone has previously believed.  Traveling to all parts of the this ancient world, episodes of Jurassic Fight Club will highlight treacherous packs of speedy velociraptors, known as “Gang Killers,” who chase down massive and slow-moving brontosauruses. Another episode explores the powerful “T-Rex Hunters”, the infamous and ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex, as he stalks creatures of every shape and size, proving once and for all why he was the “king of the dinosaurs.”  Elegant but lethal Deep-Sea Dinosaurs, who were enormous, real-life “Loch Ness Monsters,” roam the oceans, slicing their prey with sword-like teeth.  And, tactical Armored Predators were protected by “body armor” made of rock-solid bone and deadly spikes.   In a battle for survival, each of these beasts used their power, speed and cunning to stay alive in the most hostile and dangerous environments.

Our Review of Jurassic Fight Club

These "documentaries" keep on getting better and better as time goes on. No longer do we have to be bored by some scientist talking about a dinosaur or some other subject while only showing us an artists rendering of an item, place or event.  In the first episode, not only do experts talk about the dinosaur and events but using extremely sophisticated computer generated animation, it was almost like you were watching the real thing happen.  Even if you do not want to learn anything, it is even worth watching with the sound off -- however, the show does provide a lot of details to the on screen action.

The series depicts the fighting abilities and habits of these prehistoric monsters.  With some amazing detail, the paleontologists (shhh . . . here's a secret, I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was as  a kid) tell us about the dinosaurs themselves and their habits.  They also provide us with information about the potential weaponry possessed by these behemoths as well as their weaknesses.  Using computer graphics they hone in on each of these areas to provide us with insight as to how the dinosaurs would have fought their prey or for for survival.  In the first episode they reconstruct a multi-million year old in Madagascar site where fossils from a Majungatholus were found and provided details of how he died in battle and how he might have fought.

Although some of the scenes are a little bit graphic and might not be appropriate for very young children (or at least they should have parental supervision), this is a series where a wide range of people can learn something about the inhabitants of the Jurassic era.  It is not only educational, it is entertaining, which is a great thing for the younger viewer and might get them interested in science -- if not paleontology, then something else.  The experts use a lot of interesting tools in conducting their research and they might have some appeal to the youngster who only seemed to be excited by video games.  So this series, especially being about dinosaurs will hopefully pull more people into the sciences by being something exciting.

From what I saw, the show was just very entertaining.  The style was almost like CSI with a victim and possible culprit and the experts were doing their police work to find the clues to solve the mystery.  The bit of suspense added to the entertainment value of an already well done and produced show.  Thsi is a show that you should put into your Outlook each week so you do not miss an episode. Amazing CGI Animation Brings

Prehistoric Natural History to Life Like Never Before in…

JURASSIC FIGHT CLUB

Premiering Tuesday, July 29 at 9pm ET/PT on History

Groundbreaking Forensic Evidence Leads to Breakthrough Discoveries in Understanding How Dinosaurs Battled for Supremacy

History ChanellNew York, June 23, 2008 - A dinosaur’s life was not easy. Volatile pre-historic terrain, harsh climate conditions, insufficient food and water, as well as unrelenting enemy predators made survival anything but a given. With cutting edge forensics leading to new discoveries every day, researchers are gaining remarkable insight into the psychology and physiology of these ancient beasts. The new series JURASSIC FIGHT CLUB, premiering on History™, Tuesday, July 29 at 9pm ET/PT, brings the history of dinosaurs and their epic encounters to life like never before seen with astonishing CGI, illustrating the characteristics that made some the hunters and others the game.

The latest tested evidence suggests that our planet’s first fighters were more than just brutes. CAT scans of fossils allow us to peer inside the bodies and minds of dinosaurs giving clues to their behavior, thought process, ability to strategize and work in groups, as well as their vision. It is even believed that Raptors possessed night vision.

How dinosaurs lived and how they fought has never been clearer. Leading scientists and experts, offer play-by-play commentary to battles that occurred 70 million years ago and CGI imagery depicts the ancient beasts sizing up their opponents and flexing their prehistoric muscles. Jurassic Fight Club illustrates in fantastic detail the crucial evidence found and the scientific research conducted, illuminating the possible motivations for engaging in combat.

Tyranosaurus Rex PictureEach episode showcases thrilling dinosaur confrontations, all of which are based on recent paleontological findings. There is a potential mating situation between two Majungatholous that went awry; a gang of Raptors that stalked and killed a large herbivore; a pair of Ceratosaurus who ambushed a Allosaurus but soon discovered they were on the defense; a Nanotyrannus, a mini-version of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, invaded a nesting area where two juveniles had been left on their own while their parents were on the trail for fresh meat; and more.

JURASSIC FIGHT CLUB Executive Producer for History is Dolores Gavin, and is produced for History by 1080 Inc. Productions.

JURASSIC FIGHT CLUB: CANNIBAL DINOSAUR (Tuesday, July 29 at 9pm ET/PT) –Majungatholus versus Majungatholus. Scientists uncover the first authentic case of dinosaur cannibalism. Paleontologists look deep into the brain cavity to give science new insight into their behavior, then by studying the behaviors of modern animals, experts recreate a scenario of what occurred when a male Majungatholus went in search of a mate, but found a non-receptive female who was more interested in protecting her young, than mating.

Raptor PictureJURASSIC FIGHT CLUB: T-REX HUNTER (Tuesday, August 5 at 9pm ET/PT) -

Tyrannosaurus Rex was the most feared predator on earth, but to one particular dinosaur, he was prey. A discovery in Montana reveals the broken and fractured bones of a juvenile T-Rex, and the teeth of its attacker. Experts measuring the size and shape of the teeth are able to identify the attacker as Nanotyrannus. As more bones emerged, paleontologists get an unprecedented look into 65 million year old battle and help answer questions about the origin of Nanotyrannus, the “Tiny Tyrant”.

JURASSIC FIGHT CLUB: GANG KILLERS (Wednesday, August 13 at 10pm ET/PT) – The bird-like predator Deinonychus takes on the large plant-eating dinosaur called Tenontosaurus.  Scientists give a never before seen look into how these animals moved, fought and behaved and recreate what happened when a pack of deadly raptors took on an adversary more than twice their own size.

JURASSIC FIGHT CLUB: BLOODIEST BATTLE (Wednesday, August 20 at 10pm ET/PT) – Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus go at each other at a prehistoric watering hole that became the scene of one of the bloodiest battles in paleo- history.
