Our Review of CHiPs Season 2
The disk contains 22 one hour episodes - which lends for a lot of Ponch and Jon for your DVD collection. The episodes keep your attention with the police activities of the California Highway Patrol -- and by putting them on motorcycles, makes their jobs look even cooler than if they were driving around in a squad car. They solve crimes, ride around and go out with girls. Although the series was a drama, and had its serious side, there is also a lot of lighter moments written into each episode as well.
Once you finish watching all of the episodes, and cannot wait until season 3 is released, there are also a number of great special features included in this second season package. I personally really enjoyed the featurette The Real CHiPS, that includes some very interesting early interviews with Erik Estrada and the other bonus feature, The Greatest Adventures of CHIPs is also another feature that you must see.
This DVD set gets two thumbs up.

Warner Home Video Releases Your Favorite California Highway Patrolmen to DVD Just in Time for Father’s Day!
Created by Rick Rosner for NBC, CHiPs starred the trouble-prone “Ponch,” and the more level-headed Jon, as members of the California Highway Patrol – hence the name CHiPs. The show was the perfect mix of spectacular stunt car crashes and a showcase of the pair’s glamorous SoCal lifestyle. Many of the episodes were also marked by Ponch’s attempts to impress the ladies with his athletic prowess, only to fail, leaving Jon and everybody else around them with a hearty laugh. Erik Estrada’s role as “Ponch” was monumental as he was one of the first Latinos to play a policeman on the small screen. The cultural relevance of the show, the authentic 1970s nostalgia, and the action packed stunts have even inspired an all new feature film expected to be released in early 2009.

When
CHiPs was first aired back in the late 1970's it became a big hit. It was
actually a pretty cool show to watch while it was on. It had action and
adventure, and there was always at least one beautiful girl on, that as a young
teen, kept me interested. Women liked the show because of Erik Estrada,
and it was well written. However, when the show was over and went into
syndication, it began receiving a reputation of being campy -- and the whole
Erik Estrada stud thing became overplayed. However, while the show was
being filmed, it was great and was even a prototype of many other police shows
to follow.
