Our Review of Title

The BBC is the Cadillac of well produced nature shows, and the Atlas of the Natural World is not just a show, it is a multiple disc video history of the world.  The series is almost like a narrated artwork of sights and sounds. However, the series also accomplishes what a documentary sets out to do -- it educates its viewer.

There is so much information crammed into this 6 disk set - and it only covers Europe and Africa.  The series goes into the natural creation of of these continents and explains not only the habitants of such lands, but how these lands were originally formed. The various geographical traits that make up these continents provide for various animals that have adapted to such extreme conditions as the heat of the Sahara or the cold of the high mountains of Europe.  The people of these regions are even studied and how they have learned to adapt to these different conditions as well.

This is an amazing series for all ages. Kids would especially find the series fascinating and full of wonder, and adults would see the beauty and history of these natural environments.

The DVDs are very well produced and provide for a great viewing experience.  For most of the series, you do not need to worry about the sound of the narrator, however, there are scenes where there is great action footage that is accompanied by their natural sounds and enhances the visual affect.    Some of these scenes are incredible, I do not know how they were able to film some of them.

The DVD set also includes additional footage, such as five hours covering Madagascar, the Nile, Scandinavia and Iceland and a cool feature which I like is the pop-up option where pop-ups with additional information on the scene will appear from time to time.

This is another great production from the BBC and highly recommended.
