Ace Hood InterviewInterviewed by Nosa Garrick (July 2008)
We Bring You ACE ACE ACE!!! LISTEN!!
Florida has been making some noise for a minute now on the rap scene, with Rick Ross the Boss, to T-Pain, just to name a few, our mainstream airwaves have been taken over with the gritty sounds of Miami-Dade. Fresh to the set but banging some very loud drums, is Ace Hood with a damn near overnight success, the newest member of Khaled's We The Best Music Group is on heavy rotation with single Cash Flow ft Rick Ross & T-Pain, along with Versions 1& 2 of Khaled's "Out Here Grindin." At a tender 19, Ace Hood is on the brink of releasing his debut album Gutta, and witnessing the results of his 24/7 hustle.
How are you feeling about your overnight success? Feeling blessed man. Feeling blessed about everything from being signed to a major label to the success of the single.
Who would you consider an inspiration? My mom, my mom definitely.
Tell me what it was like growing up? It wasn't bad at all i was living with 4 siblings my mom, my grandmother. My mom was basically working 3 or 4 jobs to make sure we didn't want for nothing.
What about football do you miss that since your injury? Music definitely overcame football. It was cool while it lasted, but music is my calling, and I'd rather be doing this than anything else. Yeah, I'm happy doing what I'm doing now!
Minus all the heavy cosigns you're getting right now what separates you from the next dude? I'm bringing a whole new energy, bringing a whole new swag. I did a show the other day where I hopped on a bar and performed on there. People don't do stuff that's different. I'm constantly trying to push things and do things new and differently. That's what's separating me from the next dude I go hard everyday, and I do the unexpected. I may have a deal, but I work like I'm still starving.
What was it like working with Trick Daddy, Ross and Weezy, was it intimidating? Definitely a great feeling working with all of them. It made me feel like I was actually advancing in the game.
How do you feel about the music industry with albums being leaked left and right? Leaking happens. I'm not mad at the industry right now. The industry can't help that people are leaking albums, I mean I hope people go out and get my album, but with bootlegging at least people get to hear what I'm about.
What advice can you give to someone coming to the rap game? Grind everyday like you ain't got a deal...even after you get one.
Who do you think is your biggest competition right now? Ace Hood. |
