Asian-American Theatrical Pioneer Mako Dies at 72
Mako, a pioneer in stage and film for Asian-American actors died of cancer this past Friday. He helped to change the negative stereotypes of Asian Americans portrayed in the movies back in the 1950s and 60s through his brilliant acting and through action such as helping to establish the first Asian American repertory company in the United States. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in Pacific Overtures and an Oscar nomination for the movie The Sand Pebbles. {Reported by Ian Ripley}
