Teddy Geiger was born on September 16, 1988
in Upstate New York (near Rochester) to parents John and Lorilyn Geiger.
He had always had a gift for music. He
began playing the guitar at the age of six or seven and was composing
and writing music on the piano by the age of eight. He was playing
guitar and trombone by the time he was eleven. What is even more amazing
is that he is self-taught. [Note: When he was really young, he would go
down into his grandfather’s basement and start playing around with the
guitars with his cousin. Eventually, his grandfather gave the guitars
to them, and the rest is history.] He did inherit good music genes from
his two grandfathers. One played the trombone and the other plays
piano and arranges music.
By the time he was a teenage, he was
playing local venues, starting at coffee shops, then moving onto gigs at
clubs in Upstate New York. His fans would flock to see him and his
faithful have taken on the name of “Tedheads.”
His music career has really taken off since
2004. In fact, he chose his career over school and did not finish his
senior year at High School (McQuaid Jesuit High School). Instead, he
earned his GED.
If was during the summer of 2004 that Teddy
auditioned for the role of 70’s teen idol Keith Partridge for a VH1
special In Search of the New Partridge Family. Although he did
make it to the finals, he did not get the part – however, producer Billy
Mann was present and liked what she saw and heard. [Note: Billy Mann
has produces such stars as: Jessica & Ashlee Simpson, Sting and Pink.]
By February of next year, with Mann’s help, Teddy Geiger was recording
his first album at a big studio in New York City for Columbia Records.
[Note: Teddy originally did not want to go to the auditions – but his
mother insisted, and like a good son, he listened – and see what
happened.]
He released a six song EP entitled Step
Ladder in early 2005. The EP made it to the top ten on Billboard’s Top
Hitseekers Chart (for the Mid-Atlantic region). No two songs are really
alike, he has his own style which many compare to John Mayer, but it is
distinct as well. His natural talent for music is highlighted on the EP
both in song writing and playing. is debut Album, Underage Thinking
will be released on March 21st, 2006.
[The album got its name because as Teddy states, "Some
kids rebel and express themselves by acting out or being destructive and
I guess I feel like I rebel in my mind with music."] His
first single, "For You I Will" is now available on iTunes by
clicking here.
Part of his promotion of the album was by
touring. In fact, he was the opening act for the U.S. stage of Hilary
Duff’s “Still Most Wanted Tour” during the summer of 2005 (covering 30
cities). This exposed him to his many from his target market –
thousands of teen and pre-teen girls across the country. However, heavy
synthesizers and tons of instruments do not bog down his music. It is
just him, his acoustic guitar and two other band members. The girls may
love to look at him, but this kid has real musical talent as well.
In 2005, he kind of began his television
career. He filmed appeared in the pilot of a television series called
Love Monkey (starring Tom Cavanagh and Jason Priestly) about the
music industry, in which he plays a young musician. He also provides
the theme song to the show entitled “Love is a Marathon.” Keep a look
out for the show this coming January 17th on CBS. However, you may be able
to see him beforehand on your TV sets because he is appearing on a Sony
HD television commercial on CBS and a few cable channels. For those of
you who cannot wait, he appears on the December 5th issue of
Miss 17 on MTV. He appeared in four episodes of the show.
Besides having musical and acting talent,
he is also very photogenic and you will begin seeing his face in
magazines. [Teen People in Nov./Dec.2005 and Seventeen in
Feb. 2006 to name a few.]
When he is not on tour or making music, he
is hanging out with his friends listening to music. He is also very
conscious of the world and people around him. In a battle of the bands
contest, he donated his winnings of $1000 to the Tsunami relief efforts
and recently he headlined at a benefit concert for the victims of
Hurricane Katrina.
In
January 2006, Teddy was on the cover of Billboard Magazine and was one
of the "Whats Hot for 2006."
Teddy's long awaited first album, Underage
Thinking was finally released in March 2006 - it has received great
reviews, and debuted on the Billboard charts at #8.
In 2008 he will appear in the movie
The Rocker, starring Rainn
Wilson and Josh Gad (Christina
Applegate will also be in it)
