Romeo Miller, whose given name was Percy Romeo
Miller III, was born on August 19, 1989 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Sonya and
Percy Miller II (better known as rapper Master P and CEO of No Limit Records).
He is the oldest of five siblings: his brothers Vercy and Hercey, and his
sisters, Itali, Tytyana, and Intylyana. Two of his uncles are rappers, C-Murder
and Silkk The Shocker.
Like his father, Romeo, or Lil’ Romeo as he was
called, showed promise very early that he had talent. In fact, by the age of
four he was rapping on his father’s records and was writing his own raps by the
age of five. However, it wasn’t until a few years later, in 1999, when tragedy
struck, that he decided that he really wanted to pursue a career in music. He
was in a car crash with his cousin Lance, who died in the crash (his song “Take
My Pain Away is about his cousin).
Rapping was not the only talent he got from his
father; he also received some skill in handling the basketball (His father
played semi-pro ball and was invited to camp by the Hornets and the Raptors, but
never played during the season). In 2000, he went to the AAU National
Championship and later won the MVP at the Michael Jordan basketball camp.
In 2001, the youngster released his first album,
produced by his father, entitled Lil’ Romeo that included the number one
hit “My Baby.” This made him the youngest soloist to have a number one hit on
the Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart – beating out
Michael Jackson. His “innocent” rapping
style, like Lil’ Bow Wow, set the stage for years
to come.
Besides singing and playing B-ball, the young Romeo
was also a budding actor and in 2001, he made his first TV appearance in an
episode of The Brothers Garcia. Later that year he made his big screen
debut as Marvin in the movie Max Keebler’s Big Move. [Fast fact: Romeo was doing a
photo shoot only two or three blocks from the World Trade Centers on 9/11 when
they collapsed – and recorded a song, “We Can Make It Right” about the tragic
events”.]
Lil’ Romeo took no time in 2002 to rest and
released his sophomore album, Game Time. Even with his busy schedule,
he always went to school when possible and continued to maintain a straight “A”
average at the St. Luke's Episcopal School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
2003 was an even busier year. Romeo was given his
own show by Nickelodeon, the self titled Romeo!, was in reality TV series
with his father called Crashing with Mister P and then co-starred along
side Jessica Alba in the movie Honey
(for which he was nominated for the Black Reel Award for Best Breakthrough
Performance, and the Teen Choice Award for Choice Breakout Movie Star - Male).
Romeo’s (the Lil’ had been dropped) third album,
Romeoland, was released in 2004, and he continued to film his television
series.
In 2005, he co-stared in a made-for-TV movie called
Uncle P, which also starred his father. He also started his own clothing
line called P.miller Shorties (to compliment his father’s line entitled P.
Miller Signature Collection,” which has done very well financially. During
the year he also won the Kid's Choice Blimp Award for Favorite TV Actor.
