Career
A native of Derry,
Nadine Coyle, also known as Nadz or Diney, first found fame in 2001 when, while
still at school, she entered the Irish version of the talent show Popstars. As
one of the winners of the show, Coyle was selected to become a member of the
band Six. Shortly after the band was formed, the bandmates moved into a house
together and all were interviewed on camera. Coyle gave a string of information
about herself, but then stopped suddenly and whispered "What date of birth did I
give...?". She initially maintained that she had simply made a mistake when
stating her birthday, but later broke down off camera and admitted that she had
lied about her age, and was in fact only 16 years old.
As the minimum age
stipulated by the producers was 18, she had to be dropped from the band. The
other members of the band proNadine Coyleed for her to be allowed to stay, but
producers forced her to leave. As for Six, their single "Whole Lot Of Loving"
became the fasNadine Coyle-selling single in Irish history. Their second Irish
single was "Let Me Be The One", which was released after receiving a successful
reaction when they supported Westlife. But, after a failed attempt to break the
UK, Six's official site disappeared and the group soon vanished from the pop
scene.
In 2002 Coyle returned
to enter the UK talent show Popstars: The Rivals. As she pulled through the
first few rounds her very first fansite opened, and soon she was on the way to
the final night. She polled the third-highest number of votes in the final, and
was chosen to join the band Girls Aloud, much to the delight of friend and new
bandmate Kimberley Walsh. During the series she had been a hot favourite to make
the band, especially after a stunning rendition of "Fields of Gold", which many
believe was the performance of the series. She also sang "Show Me Heaven", "When
I Fall In Love" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", regularly receiving some of
the highest vote tallies. When asked to name a highlight from the show,
presenter Davina McCall simply answered "Nadine".
With Girls Aloud she
has scored fourteen top 10 singles (two of which have been #1s) and four
platinum albums, and is often seen as "the voice" of the band. Nadine showed off
her vocal talent whilst on tour with her bandmates in May and June 2005, and
again during a UK arena tour in May and June 2006. Her good looks haven't been
left unnoticed either, earning a place in FHM's "100 Sexiest Females" list for
the past four years.

Before hitting the big
time, Nadine recorded a demo CD which was distributed to Louis Walsh (now
co-manager of Girls Aloud) and The Late Late Show. This included "Fields Of
Gold", as well as "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", "Love Is" and "Summertime". The
demo CD is very rare as only a few copies were made (Nadine gave most to her
friends and family), but one found its way onto eBay and earned a high price.
Personal life
In 2004 Coyle split
with her footballer boyfriend Neil McCafferty because of their busy schedules.
The pair had met in school and had been dating since 2000, with Nadine's friends
claiming they were "practically married". After splitting they remained friends
and although some fans were confident they would get back together Nadine denied
any rumours.
In 2005 the girls
performed on a UK tour, along with 5 male dancers, one of them Stephen Walker.
Paparazzi shots sparked rumours of a relationship with Coyle soon after the tour
ended. The shots included a photo of them kissing after performing "The Show"
(printed in the Belfast Telegraph) and when they attended the 'My Favourite
Dress Ball' together. He is also rumoured to have joined Nadine on a holiday in
Thailand. However, Nadine disappointed gossip columnists by revealing the
dancers were in fact gay and that she remained single.
Her love life hit the
headlines again in February 2006 when she was rumoured to be dating Desperate
Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe. Having said she would definitely like to date
the actor, she had the chance when the pair met in Australia. However, upon
returning to Britain she revealed that they were not an item (with their distant
homes given as one reason) but would remain friends. Despite this, there had
been pictures in the tabloids of Nadine and Jesse together, and numerous reports
of them on dates together in London. It was eventually confirmed that Nadine and
Jesse were a couple, despite numerous rumours in the tabloids about Jesse's
other affairs.
On November 16th it was
reported in many tabloid newspapers and magazines that Jesse and Nadine had
split up, a story which was later confirmed by Coyle. On November 28th New!
magazine released pictures suggesting that Nadine and Jesse were back together,
which has later been confirmed by the two of them.
