The cable
stations used to play this all the time around Halloween. It is also a
great example of the kind of cheesy horror that was popular in the 80's.
Featuring a soundtrack by the mildly successful band Fastway, this movie
is at the very least entertaining. My wife tried for years to tape this
off of cable, but I believe that Sammi Curr just wasn't having it. The
tapes never came out right. Finally about three or four years ago, I was
at a Wal-Mart in Miami and was digging through the five dollar DVD bin
and saw it lying there. Let me just say that it brought a big grin to
her face when I got home. Some movies don't hold up well over time, or
our expectations have outgrown what movies can actually deliver, such as
“Time Bandits” or “Point Of No Return”. In my eyes this is just as
entertaining as it was 20 years ago.
There
really isn't a whole lot to say about the cast. It's Skippy from “Family
Ties” for crying out loud! The rest of the cast is your standard “B”
movie type actors and actresses. With two notable cameos,
Ozzy Osbourne as a Reverend
(Really!), and Gene Simmons as the local radio DJ, Nuke. If you have the
version i have you are mislead by the cover as it features newer
pictures of Gene and Ozzy, saying that they are the stars. Proof
positive that you shouldn't judge a book (or a DVD) by it's cover. An
interesting note: Glen Morgan, who played Roger, went on to write and
produce the movies “Final Destination”, “The One”, “Willard” and “Final
Destination 3”.
It has
decent make up effects and the plot is pretty straightforward. This
movie will mainly be an entertaining trip down memory lane for the few
who choose to revisit it. Since this review doesn't say a whole lot
about the movie I have decided to provide a few fun links for you “Trick
or Treat” fans.
