Our Review of Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale

You know that the holidays are right around the corner when you begin to see yet another version of the classic Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky.  In this hilarious version, the feline Jerry is once again pitted up against his old nemesis, Jerry, the lovable mouse.   In this tale, the adversaries are magically taken into the tale when Jerry is watching a performance of the Nutcracker and wishes to be part of it himself. His wish comes true and the theater becomes a real-life stage, and unfortunately for Tom, he is pulled into the fantasy world as well.

Although you might have other impressions before watching the movie, it is not a rehashing of the original tale with Tom and Jerry playing the leads, but instead, the story goes on (almost) as usual, with the duo just acting like a themselves in between the plot that is going on throughout.  Of course there is there is the usual fighting between the two, with hijinx being the focus of their relationship.  For those of you that are used to the originals, there is some violence, however, it is fairly tame compared to the old cartoons (I cannot believe my parents let me watch that as a kid).

It is a nice little tale that would be a great gift for the little ones befure or during the holiday.   You may even use this as an introduction to the an actual production as a side gift to compliment this one.

Before I forget, there are also two bonus features on the DVD. First is a "feature" that will allow you to make cool cards for the holiday. The other is a game called "Journey To the Toymaker" which is cute game that might be challenging to the very young.

I know it is not yet Thanksgiving, but Happy Holidays,
