Our Review of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut

This is not just another DVD release of a movie with added scenes.  In some ways this movie is a whole new experience.  Richard Donner was not allowed to fully express his vision in the original movie, so some scenes were changed or deleted.  This movie goes back in times and allows him to show his original intended movie to the masses.

This is the sequel to a the first Superman movie that further develops the character and introduces some new characters.  The new scenes add to the character development and are sometimes just interesting to see, such as some new footage of Marlon Brando as Jor-El.  Some changes are slight, but many are drastic enough to just jump out at you and you will find yourself saying "wow."

For some insight into Donner's original vision, the featurette, Superman II: The Vision Restored (available on this DVD) is a must see.  You should also check out the commentaries by Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz as well as Donner's introduction.

Superman I and II are two of those must see movies, and this is the version you have to see and includes some excellent acting by the late Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder as well as those appearances by Brando and other great characters.
