Start your engines and fasten
your seatbelts for the high-octane adventure Speed Racer, combining
heartfelt family humor and groundbreaking visual effects. Speed Racer
(Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel of his thunderous Mach 5.
With support from Pops and Mom Racer (John Goodman and Susan Sarandon),
girlfriend Trixie (Christina Ricci), younger brother Spritle (Paulie
Litt) and the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox), Speed takes on fierce
competitors to save his familys business and protect the sport he loves.
When Speed steps onto the track, its not just a race. Its an
adrenaline-fueled, high-speed charge to the finish. Go, Speed Racer,
go!! Critic's Quotes: "Speed Racer is like nothing you've ever seen. It
is gorgeous."

There is no need to re-review the movie itself here. Mitch E
provided a very good review when the movie first hit the theaters, and
you can read his review here.
However, as you know the movie is based originally upon Japanese manga
Mach GoGoGo from the late 60's created by Tatsuo Yoshida.
An English adaptation was made acquired a cult following that has
continued throughout the years. The movie, then has come out of
these original concepts.
Although I found the movie entertaining, it
is definately not up on my top 100 list. However, I am glad I got
to watch it on Blu-Ray. The directors used a high definition
process when filming the movie, which provided a clean/crisp transfer to
Blu Ray. If you really want to see what the future of high
definition and blu ray will bring, you must watch this movie. The
clarity of the picture (and audio) is unbelievable. This only enhances
the enjoyment of the film. More and more people (thanks to
PS3) are buying movies on Blu Ray, and will hopefully continue to do so.
Although downloading of digital copies may provide easier access to a
wide range of products at a single glance, I still like to own something
physical. Downloading a song from iTunes, etc., really does not
bother me, but when it comes to movies, I like to have something
physical to have and hold (and it is much easier to use on (or transfer
to) various players (FYI, the Blu Ray edition does come with a free
digital download).
Besides a digital download, the disk does
come with a bunch of pretty cool bonus features, including: a tour of
the movie set with Paulie Litt (Sprittle in the Big Leagues), a
look at the cars and racetracks used to make the movie (Speed Racer:
Supercharged!), a "behind-the-scenes" look at the making of the
movie (Speed Racer: Car=Fu Cinema), and a game disk which I have
not yet played (Speed Racer Crucible Challenge).
If you are looking to buy your first Blu
Ray disk for yourself, or your family, this is the one.
