A romantic comedy about an ex-professor who has become detached from the
joys of life after losing his wife, but once again finds love and
happiness after an injury is the catalyst that changes his world. |
Review of Smart People Movie
|
|
Of
course, one cannot write a review of this movie without mentioning
Sideways. This is because Smart People was produced by
the same person and both movies were written in that same witty and
smart writing style. Another comparison is that the actors in
both movies were great and a future comparison will be that this is
another movie that most people will not see that will win a number of
awards (remember, Sideways won an Oscar and nominated for another
four).
Although I am not a big fan of SJP (Sarah
Jessica Parker), she was one of a wonderful cast that also co-starred
Dennis Quaid, Ellen Page and Thomas Haden Church. The plot was
fairly simple (as most romantic comedies are), but it was all of the
small side-plots and the great lines that added to the story. For you
guys out there, do no worry, it is all of these little side jokes and
subplots that make the movie interesting and not just another chick
flick -- but yes, the movie does go into the area of relationships.
This is one of those have to watch movies
that might not get a lot of hype (although I am trying to create some
buzz with this review), but is one that will be memorable to those that
do get a chance to watch. Also, when you go out and buy this one,
pick up Sideways as well.
What I love about some CDs is the extras
that come along with it. This DVD delivers a lot of cool extra
goodies such as a featurette called The Smartest People, with
interviews of the producers, cast, etc. There is also one of my
favorite DVD bonuses, audio commentary of the film with the director and
writer. The DVD ALSO has outtakes, deleted scenes and footage from
the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. These are great add-ons for a
really good movie. |

critics across the country with its light-hearted look at a

Once an
idealistic and ambitious academic, Professor Lawrence Wetherhold (Quaid)
lost his passion for teaching when he lost his wife. Hunkered-down
behind his books, Wetherhold has forgotten how to connect, even with his
daughter, the acerbically witty Vanessa (Page). Suddenly a head injury
sends Wetherhold to the emergency room where his world spins out of his
control. Forced to depend on his brother (Church), a freeloading
oddball, for transportation, Wetherhold is surprised to find himself
attracted to his ER doctor and former ex-student (Parker) and begins to
emerge from his isolation—with surprising consequences for the entire
family.
