Review of Sex and the City (Blu-Ray)
It is interesting that I was asked to review this movie, having not really been a fan of the show.  Well, I guess, I was "elected" to doing it because I am the only reviewer on here with a blu-ray player. I only saw one whole episode, and maybe parts of others, and of course I have read and seen a ton of satire (and some praise) about show and Sarah Jessica Parker throughout the years.   In the one show I saw, I have to admit I was not impressed, although one of the four women (I do not remember which one) flashed her bare breasts to some sailors (if I remember correctly).  Although was enticement to watch the show, it really was not worth watching a bunch of women bitch about men, life and men each week.  So, I guess I do have my biases when watching this movie.   The movie was not bad, it was not great either, especially to me, an "outsider" to any of the inside jokes and history of the characters.  In the satires you always see four women sitting around a table talking about stuff. I guess, you did have a bunch of that in the movie, but the topics were not edgy, or even really that exciting (at least to me).  But, it was still watchable.  However, having watched it with a fan of the show, they thought it was fairly good, more to get an update on what is going on with the characters, than the episode itself.  We both agreed it was written more like a long television episode than a motion pictures.  It was definately written for fans of the show, and in that it succeeded.   For the fan, there are a number of bonus features on the disk, including commentary by the director (Michael Patrick King), an interview with Sarah Jessica Parker and King, a documentary about the fashion in the series (which I did find entertaining, wondering why a person would wear such interesting ensembles), an interview/mini-documentary about Fergie and recording the song, and there are also two interactive features.   This is a must-have ultimate movie to have for the Sex and the City fan, although for the casual watcher, it might not be such a great draw, except as a gift for any Sex an the City of SJP fan.
