Review of Poltergeist

Poltergeist DVD Cover ArtI cannot believe it has been 25 years since the movie Poltergeist was first released.  I remember going to the movies to see it, and I was not that young (although much younger than today).  Since I am really reviewing the 25th Anniversay DVD, I am not going to be reviewing the movie itself to a great extent.  Basically, it was a really good movie.  It was a horror movie that was done quite well, that was not just all about gore and guts, but also had a good main plot and subblots to it.  The characters themselves were either very believeable (some great acting by decent actors) or were very interesting (Tangina Barrons played by Zelda Rubinsein).  I have seen the movie a few times between then and now, and I still enjoy it (I do have the original version in my collection on VHS).

Poltergeist 25th AnniversaryObviously, the movie itself is the same on this 25th Anniversay edition, except that is sounded a lot crisper (the soundtrack was remastered), and that just adds an extra edge to the movie. Although you do not really notice it, the background music does play a part in the movie, altthough it may not be as pronounced as in movies such as Star Wars or Jaws (da da, da da).

The Anniversay edition also includes an exceptional bonus feature.  It is a full two part documentary called, They Are Here: The ral World of Poltergeist Revealed, which provides a behind the scenes look at the movie and its actors and those things called Poltergiests. The two parts are titled Science of Spirits and Commuting With The Dead.  This is a bonus worth watching, especially if you like all that ghoulish stuff.
