The Cheetah Girls have now completed their third musical which
originally aired on the Disney Channel earlier this year. The
original movie showed the girls getting together and rocking out in the
USA. The second movie showed them strutting their musical stuff in
Spain. This third movie brought them to yet another international
destination -- India. The plot is fairly straightforward, the girls are
invited to India to star in a Bollywood musical. However, they
find out that they must compete against each other for the starring
role. This causes turmoil to the group and brings them to the
brink of breaking apart their group and worse yet, their friendship.
The movie itself was enjoyable to watch
with a number of well choreographed musical numbers dispersed throught
the movie -- especially the Bollywood style finally at the end.
The girls themselves do a decent job at acting, but it is their vocal
talents that are really the stars of the show. There were a number
of times when the speed of the movie did slow down, but the stroy would
quickly move back to a faster pace - or at least to a faster song.
The direction, set and costumes were also well done. A great movie
for young teens and tweens, and even provides some interesting facts and
information about Bollywood and the Indian culture.
As mentioned above, I enjoyed the musical
sequences/numbers. In the Extended Music Edition, they included a
sequence that was not seen in the original movie, and I must say that it
was excellent and wondered why this was cut out of the original.
There is also an "alternate" move that includes all of the video fun
facts which is fairly interesting (I must admit, I have not yet seen
this version in its entirety). Other special features include a
bloopers reel and music videos. To top it off, there are glitter tattoos
which are always a hit with the youngsters.
The Cheetah Girls are a very talented group
of young women and by teaming up with Disney, you know that they have
produced a quality movie for all ages, especially for the younger
audience that they target. As a parent, I find this very important
because I want to make sure that my children are not exposed to all of
the sexually charged or violent junk that they show on TV. If you
want to expose your children to the "real world" there is a time and a
place to do it, I prefer not to have the TV/movie screen to be the one
to teach it to them. If your kids are going to watch TV or a
movie, it is a good idea to at least watch it with them either to screen
out content or to explain it to them. [Sorry for the PSA.]
It is a good, entertaining DVD/Blu-Ray and
I would highly recommend it for your young teen and pre-teen. |
