Review of Hannah Montana - One In A Million

 The
biggest thing going on right now with young teen and tween girls is a
girl named Miley Cyrus, although you may know her better as Hannah
Montana. This fourteen year old girl not only has talent, but has
that extra something special that makes her a draw for young girls.
First of all she can both sing and act, as highlighted by the four
episodes on the DVD and the videos which are included in the bonus
features. Secondly, she has that wholesome look to her that is
attractive to parents (unlike some of her unnamed teen-pop predecessors
it does not look like it is just an act), her father (Billy Ray Cyrus)
is an international country singer and songwriting superstar not to
mention a Dancing With The Stars contestant, and she has the
power of Disney behind her. This DVD bring all of that and more
together into one place to provide a visual and audio experience for
fans and non-fans alike.
The main focus of the DVD is on four
episodes from Disney's hit TV series Hannah Montana. Miley
Cyrus is the star of the show. She plays Miley Stewart, a regular kid
who has a second "secret" life as a teen pop star named Hannah Montana.
Her father Robbie Stewart is played by real life father Billy Ray Cyrus
who also has a dual personality as Hannah's manager and former star as
well as Miley's dad. The three other co-stars include Jackson
(Jason Eales), her sometimes goofy but good hearted brother, Lilly
(Emily Osment), her cute tom-boyish freind and confidant that is known
for her role as Gerti Giggles in the Spy Kids movies and her boy
bud Oliver played by Mitchell Musso. The cast works together
very well and you can feel the chemistry when watching the episodes.
The four episodes included on the DVD
portray different aspects of Hannah's teenage life. There is
always a conflict or issue to overcome, and although they are written
into the life of this fictitious character, the issues are relevant to
her audience's life. Lilly's Mom Has Got It Goin' On is
about her father and Lilly's mother dating (have you ever noticed that a
lot of Disney characters do not have two parents?) amd her relationship
to her father. The mother is played by the beautiful and talented
Heather Locklear. Relationships, especially between a daughter and
her father is a recurring theme throughout many of the shows episodes,
such as in Me And Mr. Jonas And Mr. Jonas And Mr. Jonas where she
believes that the Jonas Brothers are putting a wedge in their
relationship. The episode also includes a song with both Hannah and the
Jo Bros. Relationships with other family members is also important
to Hannah as shown in I Will Always Loathe You, starring country
legend Dolly Parton and comedic genius Vicki Lawrence.
Relationships between freinds and dating is something that is very
important to teens and tweens and is also highlighted in That's What
Friends Are For starring another Disney Channel's starlet Selena
Gomez (Wiches of Waverley Place).
The fun does not stop with the four
episodes. Disney also throws in a bunch of great bonuses. To
display the vocal prowess of Miley/Hannah, two music videos are
included, "One In A Million" and "True Freind." A featurette named the
10 Top Disney Fueds hosted by Jason Earls is also a really nice addition
which gives you some insight into some of the Disney Characters and how
they sometimes do not always get along. If you thoght that was
all, well you are wrong, they also throw in an episode of Raven (also
from the Disney Channel), starring Raven Symone, another extremely
talented singer and actress.
As a parent I would highly recommend this
DVD for your teen and pre-teen. The episodes are well-written and
well-acted. The episodes are enjoyable to both kids and yes, even
to adults and the extra bonuses make the DVD well worth purchasing it.
I can almost guarantee that once your kid starts watching the DVD, they
will play it a second, third or even tenth or more times. |
