Plot of King Kong (1933)

A film crew and a beautiful movie star find an island inhabited by a group of natives and the giant gorilla they worship named Kong.  Kong then falls in love with the young beauty (played by Fay Wray).  They take Kong back to New York City where havoc follows.

Review of King Kong

This movie is a classic.  Even when I was still a child, the special effects were real enough.  Compared to today's high-tech movies, it does not even compare, but for what they had in 1933, the movie was magic.  Could you imagine sitting in a movie theater and seeing a fifty food gorilla storming towards you?  Even the primitive effects are still real enough today to enjoy the action.

The story itself is not what you would expect from a monster movie.  It is in some ways a beauty and the beast love story between King Kong and Ann Darrow (played by Fay Wray).  The plot is simple, yet compelling and the over-acting of some of the characters is apropos for the period.   The story is classic even in modern remakes.  However, the remakes  with all of their high-tech photography still pale in comparison to this original cinematic masterpiece.
