Caveat: This is not be a review of the band or its music, but of the
"movie" itself as it appears on the Blu-Ray.
Being a fan of rock, I have watched many
concert videos over the years. Some were well produced, some were
bootlegs with no production value at all, and most were somewhere
in-between. There are many that have become favorites of myself
and other fans, and there are some that you watch once, are happy that
you got a chance to watch it, then put it away never to be seen again
(or if you saw it elsewhere, you have no desire to obtain it for your
own collection. However, when it comes to music, and concerts,
their is a huge bias as to whether you may or may not enjoy it.
For instance, I have seen many
Rolling
Stones concerts on video, and have enjoyed even what others may
concider to be horrible videos. If I were a pre-teen girl, and I
have had the chance to ask a few their opinion, then I would think that
this video is one of the greatest visual and audio masterpieces ever
created. Who am I to argue with 8, 9 and 10 year old girls?
You have to hand it to Disney, that they
know how to create quality and well produced product. This movie
is no exception. I was fortunate enough to review the Blu-Ray
version, which even enhanced the quality beyond that of the DVD
(although I would have to take a look at the DVD to be sure). The
picture was crystal clear, even during the concert itself, which is
usually appears darkened in most videos due to the distance of the
cameras and the stage lighting. However, the concert itself was
staged to appear on video, so extra attention to lighing, effects and
camera location was probably as important as the concert itself to
provide the best picture possible. To go a step further, the movie
itself was also supplemented with 3D effects. Although the effects
were written into the script prior to the concert, it was still pretty
cool to watch. It seems that lately, 3D has become the big thing
once again for many movies and all these tween shows. The 3D has
come a long way from what I remember watching as a kid. The sound
quality was also crystal clear. As mentioned above, the production
quality of this movie is fantastic.
Besides the concert itself there is also a
look into the lives of boys themselves. This was carefully created so
that a young fan would get a look into what goes on behind the scenes
when the band is not performing on stage. And although some of the
candid moments at times seem to be a bit rehearsed, it does provide a
positive image of the trio for their fans who would definitely find it
interesting. The movie also includes additional songs that did not
appear in the original movie, other bonus songs, a 2D version, and if
you got the Blu-Ray Deluxe Extended Edition, it also comes with the DVD
and a digital version. Disney also knows how to pack as much value
into one package at it can.
What it comes down to is that the movie is
well made. If you or someone you know is a fan of the Jonas
Brothers, they will absolutely love this movie and think you are the
greatest person in the world for getting it for them. If you are a
parent or guardian, it would be good for you to watch the movie at least
once with your kids to find out about the music the they are listening
to and the bands that are making it. |
