Friday the 13th Killer Cut Movie (2009)

Synopsis of Friday the 13th Killer Cut Movie

A group of young adults discover a boarded up Camp Crystal Lake, where they soon encounter Jason Voorhees (Mears) and his deadly intentions.

Review of Friday the 13th Killer Cut Movie

Friday the 13th Killer CutLet me first start this review by saying that I was never a big fan of the Friday the 13th.  To me, it was just another one of those slasher movies that were produced about that time.  The was no real depth to the plot or the characters, and it just did not scare me as it had done to many other theater goers at that time.  Back in 1980 I was more into the sci-fi movie genre and this was just not it for me.

I have also not seen this movie in a long time, so it was strange, knowing that it was a remake, to see a flashback at the beginning of the movie to a scene from the original movie.  Without giving you, the reader, too much info, it did bring this current movie into perspective and provide some basis for the main character, Jason Voorhees.

I found this current version to be a little better than the original. I am not sure why, maybe it was the storyline, maybe it was because even though I was not a big fan, I do happen to know the background of the Jason character which added depth and maybe meaning behind his actions, whereas the in the original movie, the killer killed just because there just happened to be defenseless teenagers around.  The plot to this movie actually brings the "heros" of the story into the killing zone, instead of just being there coincidentally as a mass murder was being performed.

The blu-ray version of this movie was pretty cool since it provided both the theatrical release and an extended version (another 8 minutes was added).   I unknowingly watched the extended version and found the regular version when checking out the bonus features after watching the movie.  Some of the other bonuses on this disk includes a documentary about how they are re-forming the "legend: of Jason.  There are also two other short documentaries on the blu-ray that are pretty cool that are not on the DVD version, as well as a trivia game.

In my opinion Freddy Kruger woud beat Jason in a fight any day, but if you are a fan of Jason, I guess this movie is not bad.  As a fan, all of these extra bonuses on the DVD and especially the blu-ray are a must.
