Plot of Camp Rock Movie

A girl pretends to be rich to fit into a summer camp based around music.

Review of Camp Rock Movie

Camp Rock MovieFirst a caveat: This review is being written by an adult who happened to have watched the television show with his pre-teen.  For the most part the movie was enjoyable.  It was well written and the kids in the movie did a fine job acting.  The plot was simple and straight-forward.  This one girl could not afford to go to the camp, so her mother (the camp's cook) worked out a deal with the camp that she would work in the kitchen in exchange for her attending the camp.  As in similar movies, their is a young spoiled girl who makes the life of the heroin very harsh.  In the movie, the Jonas Brothers, who I have heard of, were also co-stars and were the mentors of the other kids.  Everything the kids learned during the camp led up to the final day where there was a contest between all of the camp attendees.  Of course there is excitment and a bit of drama between the major characters leading up to that event. Although the ending is completely predictable, I am not going to give away any spoilers.

Keeping in line with the sucess of the High School Musical movies, there was a lot of dancing and singing from some very talented youngsters.  The songs were all very well choreographed and a few of the musical numbers would have been good even for an adult movie.  Although this was set in a summer camp, images of the old TV series Fame came to mind.  My pre-teen enjoyed the movie and the fact that I let her stay up to watch the end of it.

I would highly recommend this movie to teens and pre-teens.  It showed that kids do have talent, and it was good, wholesome entertainment for younger generations.

Review of the DVD:

Most of you have already experienced the music and magic of Camp Rock on TV when it was first aired on the Disney Channel.  Now it is finally on DVD and it is a whole lot better because it adds a whole lot more.  Besides the movie that received a thumbs up by the teen and tween Disney viewers, this DVD also included a lot of bonuses to watch and listen too.  Well, when you think about it, the initial movie was free, it was on a few times already and will probably be on a few more times again.  If you wanted to you could have TiVo's it and watch it as many times as you want, so Disney had to provide some real value to get parents to dish out the money for what their kids already have for free and Disney did not disappoint.

Some of the many extras you get on the DVD include tips on out how to be a Rock Star by the Jo Bros and othe cast members, a rockumentary about the Jonas Brothers, a feature on Demi Lovato, private pictures of the cast, a backstage looks at the making of the movie, kaaraoke sing alongs, and some great videos.  On the Blu-ray edition, there is even a tour of the set with Joe Jonas.  There are hours of extras for the Camp Rock, Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato fans (and would make a great gift for any of them).
