Amazing Spider-Man #592 is a good Spider-Man story. This issue kicks off a new story arc and has all the elements that make a good Spider-Man story. It has Spider-Man action, Peter Parker’s bad luck, and Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson comedy. The cliffhanger ending, even though it was a bit telegraphed, left a smile on my face. The drawback to this issue was the beginning, involving the recap page. The recap page was followed by the next three pages that does exactly what the recap page did. I do not fault Mark Waid for this. Mark Waid does what a writer should do and he skillfully catches the reader up with what is going on in Peter/Spidey’s life, using Peter’s thought balloons. I lay blame on editorial for having the recap page that accomplishes nothing of note, it doesn’t even have the traditional “bitten by a radioactive Spider-Man” phrasing that starts most Spider-Man comics.

The artwork in this issue is “spot on” and what I would expect from the team of Mike McKone, Andy Lanning and Jeromy Cox and also what I would expect from a Spider-Man title. Mike McKone’s Spider-Man, except for a few panels, looks like Spider-Man should look.

The gem of this issue, the one thing that sticks out in my mind, is the letters page. If you are a fan of reading the letter from fans then you should really enjoy the letter featured this month.
