Review of Trapt Live!

I try not to look or read anything in or on the Trapt Live CD before the first time I listen to it.  So I was surprised when I heard the first song.  It was not live, but a studio cut of a song named "Stay Alive." Not a great song, and not live.  Huh?  Isn't this a live album?  Did they put the wrong CD in the case? I then listened to the second track "Everything to Lose," which is an awesome song with a driving rock beat and in your face lyrics -- but once again, not live.  So, I went against my reviewing ritual and looked at the track listing on the back cover.  It seems that the first two songs are studio tracks, but luckily the rest are live.  Maybe this is Trapt's way of giving their fans a short gift after not releasing anything over the three last years.

Thankfully, the third track begins the live "show" with "Stillframe" and continues until the end of the album.  Since this is a live album, I do not have to review the songs.  If you are going to buy this album, you will probably do so because you already know of the band and some of their songs.  So it is my job to tell you if I would buy this live album or suggest that you fans do as well.  If you are a die-hard fan, it is pretty obvious, this would be a great addition to your collection. If you like Trapt and their music, the choice is not as easy to make.  I would say yes.   If you do not have their studio albums, I would suggest to get those before the live album.  However, I always feel that if you really want to get the full measure of the power of a song, you really need to go to see the band in concert.  If that is not an option, the next best thing is to buy their live album, put on some really good earphones and crank it up. The album is well produced so that you do get some sense of their intensity from the album.  Their power live is amazing, and although listening to the album does not exactly give you the same feeling, it does come fairly close.  One suggestion in listening to this album is to listen to "Stillframe" first, then skip to the last song "Headstrong" (my favorite song by them), then listen to the rest of the live song.  After a break, go back and listen to the two studio cuts.
