This Is Forever (2007)

She Wants Revenge

Geffen

Review of This Is Forever

When an album has you tapping your head and toes within a few seconds of listening to the first track, you know that your expectations have been raised for the rest of the album.  You think, is this just a tease, or will the album provide me with some real meat to follow up the intro?  You hope that She Want's Revenge keeps up the beat throughout all of their second album, This Is Forever.

I have not heard production and mixing of this quality in a very long time, even with the zombie-like voice of Jason Warfield.  Okay, I am not going to say that he has even a good voice, but it fits the music.  The keyboards, synthesizers, guitars and other instruments are acutely engineered so that they play like a well tuned Swiss watch.

Once again, I am reviewing another album with 80's influences which can be clearly heard in almost every song from the vocal drones to the synthetic rhythm vibrations.  The more music tries to be different, it all just starts to sound like something that has already passed. If you slept through the 80's, only listened to metal, or are too young to either have seen or remembered the decade, this album takes you back to that time -- in most, but not all, songs.

As I mentioned above, this album has some of the most amazing mixing and production quality for an album,  however, some of the songs begin to take on the same sound, and almost become monotonous with little distinction between them other than the lyrics.   This is an excellent album musically, but I would like to see a little more variation for their third effort.  At least their last song, "Rachael," begins to show some prospect of their diversity.  Warfield and Adam 12 obviously have the talent behind the music, maybe they need someone to take over the vocals that will allow them to take advantage of their abilities.

Just a random thought to end this off .  . . the song "All Thos Moments" reminds me of something out of Shine On Crazy Diamond.
