Seven Second Surgery (2007)

Faber Drive

Universal Republic

Review of Seven Second Surgery

Faber Drives first album, Seven Second Surgery, starts out with a strong guitar.  That is good.  Sometimes the first note of an album provides a taste of everything that is to come.  That is why groups and record companies spend so much time choosing the firsts album.  It is usually one that shows a lot of feeling and most importantly a lot of energy, as does "24 Story Love Affair." However, as is often the case, it may not be the best song on the album, or the most popular.  In my case, the second song "Tongue Tied" is a much better song both musically and lyrically - and I just happen to like it better.

The album has a number of ups and downs.  Some songs are just too much like others of the genre, while there are a number of gems throughout that provides a glimpse of the great potential of this band.  Although I am usually into the harder music, it is their "softer" and slower songs that are more to my liking, although some of the high energy songs such as "Killin' Me" will probably be great when performed in concert.

Sometimes the last song of an album, just like the final song in a concert is also just as important as the first.  It is the one you heard last, and is probably the one that you might remember the most.  In this album, Faber Drive picked a really good song for their closing track, "You'll Make It" which not only has a good sound, but just has that feeling of a great song, and it even has a feel-good message.

A really good debut album by this young band and I am sure looking forward to their sophomoric effort in a year or two.  But I would really like to see them on tour.
