Review of Sammie

When you listen to the first song on the CD you are immediately hit with a feeling of déjà vu – the first song “Feelin It’” has an uncanny Michael Jackson feel to it – especially reminiscent of tracks from Off the Wall.  But one can also hear the influence of Usher on the music.  Sammie’s debut album has a very fresh sound.  It highlights his sometimes poppy, sometimes jazzy, sometimes rhythmic voice with some catchy tracks.

You find yourself moving to each song – even when sitting, you seen to be continuously tapping your feet to the rhythm, which really being to come out in songs like “I Can’t” and “What About You Friend.” He also tries to highlight the hip-hop side of his talents in songs like “You Should Be My Girl” which is a rhythmic romantic experience.  The range of the album is diverse and even show a smoother contemporary sound in song such as “Choose Me.”

Sammie gives a listener a good taste of music. I personally like the R&B smooth sounds he brings to some of the tracks, which are all very well produced by Dallas Austin.  However, a little more experience and less diversity of sounds should make his sophomoric efforts worth waiting for.
