Review of the Romeo and Juliet Soundtrack

When the writer is William Shakespeare, the story is a true classic. In 1997, one of his best known plays, Romeo and Juliet was transformed once again into a new production.  This time it was not on stage, nor was it just another modern version of the story, it was his stories and his words fast forwarded to another place and time.  In the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio in my opinion, his first real role as a mature actor, Shakespeare's words once again become art on the big screen,

 

The background to this masterpiece was a soundtrack to meet the mood of the play, yet be the drapery for the society in which it was set.  The soundtrack, starring some of the best bands during the time of its release including Garbage, Radiohead, the Cardigans and Everclear.  The original songs are all here along with five additional songs including a 2007 remix of Baz Luhrmann's "Everybody's Free ) To Wear Sunscreen."  The music and songs fit the mood of the album well with up and down-beats changing hands as the scenes and the tracks progress.

 

Everysong is the backdrop to this masterpiece.  Even alone, the soundtrack is a nice listening experience.   Moving at times and soothing at others, it is a great eclectic collection of bands that come together very nicely.  This is a soundtrack that you are sure to enjoy.
