Push (2006)

Christine Evans

Warner Bros.

Review of Push

After a solid debut album with Take Me Home, could Christine Evans top it? In one word . . . Yes.

I am sure that this is being clique, but Christine's album pushes her career and music further in her sophomoric effort entitled Push.

Beginning from the first track, "A Nation Redeemed," she already provides a more driving sound than in the previous album with even greater lyrics to highlight the new songs.  The upbeat theme continues into the second song and beyond.  The songs are also more "pop" oriented and will probably be more widely accepted, especially by the younger crowd.  If you find yourself stamping your feet to the beat or moving your head to the music in Push, do not be surprised - especially if you expected a more mellow album like the first one.  This album has a lot more energy.

Hats off have to go to the producer Tom Hall for the great quality of the songs - and of special note is the quality of the studio band(s) behind some of these tracks.  The band and production does a great job of harmonizing with the range of Christine's vocals and the diversity of her lyrics.

If you miss the more mellow sounds of a younger Christine, do not fear.  Some tracks, such as "Give It Up" and "Now I Sing" take you back to the slower songs of the debut album. These songs provide greater focus on her vocals without all of the instruments getting in the way.

It is nice to fid such a talented young person who is also socially conscious.  She donates $1 from every CD to the Kids Help Phone charity, for which she is also their Artist Ambassador.

A good artist, a good album and helping out a good charity -- you cannot go wrong with Push.
