| Our Review: Okay, I am coming into
this review with a bit of bias, just like everyone else. She is a
celebrity in the sense that she is news for what she does or does not
do. I am sure almost everyone who will first listen to her album
will begin with some sort of pre-conceived notion of what they expect.
My compliments go out to Scott Storch, Greg Wells and others who
produced a pretty good dance album. Between Storch and other
influences, the CD is well made with good catchy songs and a pretty good
appearance by Fat Joe.
The song "Stars Are Blind" is a really good song with catchy lyrics
and driving beat. But then there are synthesized pop songs like "I
Want You" that you would expect on the album. "Screwed" is also a
fun song to listen to.
But what about her vocals? I'll have to be honest, her voice is
not very strong and many times sounds like she is whispering loudly.
The synthesizers do cover her cover her voice fairly well, but a
Christina Aguilera. Her
lack of vocal skills are especially displayed in the cover of Rod
Stewart's "Do You Think I'm Sexy?" (but I am sure that she looks really
good singing the song.)
Overall, the production, lyrics, musicians and background singers do
a very good job of creating a good commercial album. You
will get your money's worth if you do purchase the CD for the music, but
do not expect to be listening to a budding
Barbara Streisand. |
Official Commentary:
The
hottest name in entertainment,
Paris Hilton,
now adds singer-songwriter to model-actress-author-entrepreneur.
On her debut album, Paris captures the sound of summer: a mix of
pure pop, hip-hop, and reggae, of bangin’ beats, sexy lyrics, and
infectious melodies. From the radio the dance floor Paris
Hilton is burning it up!!!
Hilton
collaborated with several top-notch producers to give her club-ready
dance pop an urban edge, including hip-hop's reigning hit-maker
Scott Storch (50 Cent,
Beyoncé), Jonathan "J.R." Rotem (Rihanna),
and Dr. Luke (Pink, Kelly Clarkson).
She also worked with songwriting heavyweights Kara DioGuardi (Gwen
Stefani, Christina
Aguilera, Ashlee Simpson),
Billy Steinberg (Madonna, Cyndi
Lauper), and Sheppard Solomon (Natalie Imbruglia), as well as
rappers Jadakiss and Fat Joe (on "Fightin' Over Me"). Grammy-winning
engineers Tony Maserati (Black
Eyed Peas, Beyoncé) and Serban
Ghenea (Kelly Clarkson,
Justin Timberlake, Pink)
mixed the album, which was recorded over the course of the last year
in Miami and Los Angeles.
The
first single “Stars Are Blind” is already in rotation at 125
stations and rising FAST and the video scored the all-time best
single-day rating on MTV.com’s “Hot 5 On Overdrive.” Check out
