Only Through The Pain (2008)

Trapt

Eleven Seven Music

Review of Only Through The Pain Album

I reviewed Trapt's live album not long ago with a mostly good review.   Only Through The Pain is the bands third studio effort after their phenomenal breakthrough second album (Someone In Control).  The band continues with the same rockin' sound that pushed them into the spotlight.   They still have that great garage band sound with solid lyrics and smoking instrumentals.

When you hear a song like "Who's Going Home With You?" you are automatically transported back to 2005 listening to their last album for the first time.  It has their distinct sound, with all of their power behind each note.  You can easily imagine this, like all of the other tracks on the album being a great song in concert.  My favorite song on the album is definitely "Only One In Color," which I think is the best produced track on the album, with lyrics that just make you think.

Although it is a solid album, my biggest criticism would be that it is more of the same, with the exception of maybe "Ready When You Are."  I would have expected the band to have matured a little more in their music.  Not that it is bad, but it has not really gone beyond what their last album had given us.
