The Midway State comes out with their second EP, Meet A Man On Top Of The Hill.  Nathan Ferraro is the lead singer of the group, and also wrote all of the songs on this debut (except had a little help on "Nobody Understands"). The songs are crisp with some great synths in each track that folds itself into the vocals and lyrics.

 

The first thing that hit me when listening to the album the first time is the production quality and the harmonization of the background vocals and instruments.  This band, although young, definitely has it together -- it is like they all mesh into one.  This, I believe, is in part due to the producer of the album, but most of it is because this is one of those rare bands that play together like they have one mind.

 

Although I like the sound and the music, and really enjoy the lyrics (very meaningful), my one criticism is that they all have a very common sound to each of them, except for "Nobody Understands" which has a little more variety.  As I said, I do like their sound, but the group sounds like they can do a lot more, and I await that melodic diversity (but then again, when they release their first LP, I am sure that with more songs, they will do just that).

 

This is an excellent LP from a very talented band that I hope to see and hear more of in the future.
