The subject of life and death are prominent throughout Jet Black Stare's debut album "In This Life."  I guess it is not just about life and death, but the importance of life and death and what one does with it.  This includes most sung about topic of all-time: love and relationships, especially from a band called Jet Black Stare.

The alternate rock genre  has provided the music scene with many great lyrical poets, but most, unfortunately, either do not have the vocal capabilities or musical accompaniment to back up their words.  Although JBS still has some growing to do, they are one of these few groups that pose a triple threat -- vocals, instrumentals and lyrics.

The  album's tracks provide a continued diversity.  Each song provides a driving sound, however they do slow down and speed up the tempo so that I, the listener, does not hear the same thing over, and over, and over again.  For instance, just compare the first two tracks, a similar sound, but very different tempos.  The second song, "I'm Breathing"  is probably my favorite song on the album.  It just grabbed me right away the first time I listened to it and I got that same feeling through all subsequent listen. Track three, the title song slows down the tempo even more and is another solid song both musically and lyrically.

There are a number of other really good tracks on the album, and the band has a really good sound, however, some of the songs could be just a little bit better to be "great."  For instance, I love the song "I Won't Let Go," but maybe if it was just mixed a little differently or a little less reverb on the bass, or maybe something else I cannot put my finger on, this could be a rock classic.

Jet Black Stare has a sound that will be here for a long time to come. These guys are future superstars!
