Shannen Doherty was born
on April 12, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee to
parents Tom and Rosa.
Her family moved to Los
Angeles when she was seven and she tried to
pursue a career as a child actress.
Her first big beak was in
1981, when she appeared on two episode's of the
popular TV series Father Murphy and was
nominated for the
Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress, Guest
in a Television Series.
The following year (1982)
she landed a role as Jenny Wilder on Little
House on the Prairie for its final season as
well as the subsequent made for TV movies. She
was nominated for the
Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress in a
Drama Series in 1983 and again in 1984.
She rose to fame in 1990
when she took on the role of Brenda Walsh in the
smash TV series Beverly Hills 90210. She
left the show at its height in 1994, supposedly
due to controversy with Aaron Spelling, the
shows producer.

In 1992 she was briefly
married and divorced to actor Ashley Hamilton
(son of George Hamilton).
She could not stay away from the limelight for long and posed
partially nude for Playboy in 1993. She also did
a spread in 1994, and appeared naked once again
in 2003.
She spent the mid-1990's
starring in many made-for-TV movies. Then
she hit pay-dirt again in 1998 by being cast as
one of a trio of beautiful witches on the TV
series Charmed as
Prue Halliwell.
This role disproved the allegations of her
leaving Beverly Hills, since this is also
produced by Spelling. However, she left the show
in 2001, this time amidst controversy, but this
time due to allegedly not getting along with
co-star
Alyssa Milano. She was nominated in 1999 and
2000 for the
Saturn Award for Best Genre TV Actress.
In 2001, she was charged with drunk driving.
After 2001, she appeared in a number of different roles on the
small and large screen, such as a leading role
in the TV series North Shore in
2004-2005. She even tried her hand at a reality
show, which was entitled Breaking Up With
Shannen Doherty, where she would dump boyfriends
for people, or tell people what her “clients”
really thought of them – however, the show did
not last very long.
The character of Brenda Walsh was resurrected in 2008 with a
revised “90210” television series, in which
Doherty appears in the first four episodes of
the first season as a music/drama teacher. She
has also appeared in a few other subsequent
episodes (the last in May 2009). In 2008, she
also starred in a made-for-TV movie, The Lost
Treasures of the Grand Canyon, which
appeared on the SciFi channel.
In March 2010, she appeared as a contestant in “Dancing With the
Stars,” but was the first couple eliminated the
following week. She has also voiced the eight
webisode series “Mari-Kari.”
