Miranda
Cosgrove was born on May 14, 1993 in Los Angeles, California.
When she was
about nine years old, she went out to dinner with her parents to a
restaurant. She was bored, so she began to sing and dance near the table.
As fate has it, a talent agent was also eating at the same restaurant and
liked what he saw - and was soon signed by his agency.
She began
doing some commercials at first. Then in 2003, she appeared in her debut
movie, School of Rock which opened up her career for further
development. The cast of School of Rock was nominated for the 2004
MTV Award for Best On-Screen Team and the 2004 Young Artist Award for Best
Young Ensemble in a Feature Film.
The following
year, she made her small screen debut on the hit television series, Drake
and Josh with
Drake Bell and
Josh Peck.
Miranda has
become known as a talented voice over specialist as well and her voice can
be heard on television shows such as Lilo and Stich: The Series and
What's New Scooby Do? or movies such as Peter Cottontail: The
Movie.
In 2005, she
appeared in the family oriented hit, Yours, Mine and Ours and
appeared in the movie Lucky 13 in 2006.
In 2007 she
was given her own show to star in, “iCarly.”
By its third season, iCarly was one of the highest rated shows for the tween
demographic.
Miranda launched her singing career in 2007 as well. The
first song she recorded was the theme song to “iCarly” entitled “Leave It
All To Me” which featured former castmate Drake Bell. The song was released
as a digital single later that year. In 2008, the soundtrack to “iCarly”
was released and featured four songs sung by Miranda Cosgrove. In April
2010, Miranda released her debut album, Sparks Fly, which reached the #8
ranking on the Billboard 200
chart.
In February
2010, she was signed to become the spokemodel for Neutrogena skin care.
In 2010 Miranda
began to embark upon her music career and released her first album,
Sparks Fly. After almost two years it was released in March of that
year. The album did moderately well and peaked at #8 on the U.S.
Billboard 200 charts.
She returned to
the big screen (or at least her voice) as Margo in the animated movie
Despicable Me in 2010.
She took her
album on the road in the "Dancing Crazy Tour" in 2011, which began in
January, but after breaking an ankle in August, she cancelled the remainder
of her concert dates.
She released an
EP, High Maintenance, in 2011 to coincide with her concert tour.
In 2012, she
teamed up with First Lady Michelle Obama to air an episode on
iCarly: iMeet The First Lady
saluting the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.
Miranda will be
returning to the big screen, or at least her voice will, in Despicable Me
2.
