CHRISTIAN BALE BIOGRAPHY

• Christian Bale was born on January 30, 1974 in Haverfordwest, Wales to David (commercial pilot) and XXX Bale (divorced).  His father remarried in 2000 to author Gloria Steinem. He has three older sisters, Erin (musician), Sharon (technology) and Louise (actress).  His family moved to England when he was young.

• In 1983, at the age of 9, he did a television commercial for Pac-Man cereal.

• His professional debut was in the role of an American boy in a production of The Nerd in London's West End in 1985.

• His big break, and big screen debut came in 1987 in his lead role as Jim Graham in Stephen Speilberg's Empire of the Sun and won the NBR Award for Best Juvenile Performance and the Young Artists Award for Best Young Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama.

• He continued to take other parts in movies such as Newsies (1992) in Swing Kids (1993) in which both casts was nominated for a Young Artist Award for Outstanding Youth Ensemble in a Motion Picture.

• In 2000, he made his way into the hearts of moviegoers as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho and has become a pop icon ever since.

  • Awards won or nominated for his role in American Psycho include: Chlotrudis Award for Best Actor; Empire Award for Best British Actor (nominated); ALFS Award for Best British Actor of the Year (nominated).

• He married Sibi (Sandra) Blasic in January 2000.

• In 2000 he was named one of the top eight "most powerful cult figures" of the past decade by Entertainment Weekly.

• He portrayed Bruce Wayne and his Dark Knight counterego in the smash hit movie Batman Begins in 2005, and its just as successful sequel The Dark Knight in 2008 (also bringing him a few People's Choice and Scream Awards along the way).

• In July 2008 he was arrested for a verbal assault on his mother, but the charges were later dismissed.

• In February 2009 audio of a tirade of shouts and threats by Bale towards Shane Hurlbut (director of photography) while on the set of Terminator Salvation in July 2008.  Supposedly the altercation occured when Hurlbut walked in Bale's line of site during the filming of a scene.  Many have said that it was an isolated incident and Bale publicly apologized saying he asked like a "punk."  (Click here to hear the audio - Caution contains explicit content- cursing, including use of the "F" word).

• Miscellaneous: He loves to ride horses and read books.  He also loves animals and has numerous cats and dogs.  He is also very active with many charities such as Ark Trust, Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Foundation.
