Our Review of The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries S1

Cats and dogs do not always get along with each other and that has always been abundantly clear during the long history of Sylvester Cat and Tweety Bird. In 1995 Warner Brothers decided to revive the cat and mouse team in a new series entitled Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries. In this series, the pair try to help Granny and Hector (the Bulldog) solve mysteries from different countries from around the world. Although the duo do not go to the same extremes to cause each other pain as in earlier series, each episode does have Sylvester trying to eat Tweety and Hector always having to stop (and punish) the hungry cat. It is interesting to note that although there is some violence in these cartoons, it has been very much toned down for the modern young audience. The sadistic techniques used by the duo in years past (and satired in the Simpson's Itchy and Scratchy) are not to be found. However, even without the violence, the series lasted through 2001 and was nominated and won several awards.

The DVD includes all thirteen episodes of the first season and can be enjoyed by the older viewer, but has been re-written to be enjoyed by the youth of today.
