Our Review of The Richie Rich and Scooby-Doo Hour

Richie Rich PictureIsn't it great how a TV show can transport you back in time.  I still remember in the days of my youth when I would wake up early on a Saturday morning and get myself a huge bowl of (sugared) cereal and sit down in front of the TV to watch my cartoons.  Two of my favorites were Scooby-Doo and Richie Rich.  These two "modern classics" were teamed up together in 1980-1981 in one hour specials.  Each "episode" contains six episodes of the cartoons (3 of each). The disk, in reality includes 42 episodes for everyone to enjoy.

Scooby-Doo has always been one of my favorite cartoons and by this time had already been like an old friend.  Yes, the episodes always have the same plot -- the Ghostbusters find themselves in a Mystery, at some point Shaggy & Scooby goof up, then Velma usually figures it out in the end.  Although I do like these episodes, they do include Scrappy, who I do not think was a great addition to the crime solving team.  But, Scooby-Doo is Scooby-Doo and it is always great to watch (I even find myself watching an occasional episode of Scooby-Doo when it is on TV).

Richie Rich and Dollar PictureWatching Richie Rich again after many years was a trip back in time.  I have not seen an episode of this show in many years, but have always been a fan since way back when I was a kid and used to get Richie-Rich comics every time I went in to purchase a pair of shoes (kids shoe stores do not do that any more).  It was great to see all of the characters on the show -- I remembered Dollar and the butler, but forgot all about the mechanical maid, and some of the other friends and his other adversaries.

The episodes are of good quality and was great to watch -- however, kids today would even enjoy these "old" cartoons as well.  The DVD, to my surprise does include a really cool special feature -- The Story of the Richie-Rich show, which includes a lot of interesting facts and information about the origins and creations of the show -- a must see.  My only criticism is that the DVD only includes one season, instead of the two so I will have to wait until the next DVD release to see the remainder of the episodes.
