Nickelodeon Premieres New Hour-Long TV Movie for The Naked Brothers Band "Naked Idol" (3/14)

March 5, 2009

THE COMPETITION BEGINS AS THE NAKED BROTHERS BAND SEARCHES FOR A REPLACEMENT FOR ROSALINA IN THE NEW HOUR-LONG TV MOVIE “NAKED IDOL,” MARCH 14 ON NICKELODEON

Naked Idol” Guest Stars Famed Bassists David Desrosiers of Simple Plan and Tobin Esperance of Papa Roach, Along With Comedian Dave Attell

Movie Features Debut of New Original Song, “The World as We Know It Today,” Written and Performed By Nat Wolff

NEW YORK – March 5, 2009 –  Heartbreak looms for Nat Wolff when Rosalina contemplates dropping out of the band and out of his life once and for all in the new hour-long Naked Brothers Band TV movie, “Naked Idol,” premiering at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Saturday, March 14, on Nickelodeon.  As the band is left with no choice but to replace their beloved bass player, they decide to hold open auditions for a nationwide search.  The TV movie welcomes famed bass players, David Desrosiers of Simple Plan and Tobin Esperance of Papa Roach, as well as comedian Dave Attell.  “Naked Idol” includes the debut of the band’s latest song, “The World as We Know It Today,” written and performed by Nat Wolff.

In “Naked Idol,” Rosalina finally returns to the band and back into the arms of Nat after being at sea on her round-the-world cruise.  As the band begins rehearsals for a Naked Brothers Band reunion TV special, a rival for Rosalina’s affections resurfaces and Nat is none-to-pleased about the face-to-face encounter with the young Frenchman named Michel.  The gifted pianist that Rosalina met overseas comes to steal her away but not before he drives a wedge between Nat and Rosalina causing a break up of the heart and of the band.  In need of a new bass player, The Naked Brothers conduct a nationwide competition and find the perfect choice – except for one problem, Nat isn’t ready to let anyone take Rosalina’s place.

The Naked Brothers Band recently posted double-digit gains with its core demos in the Feb. 7, 2009 premiere of “Valentine Dream Date.”  The special averaged a 7.0/1.5 million K6-11 (+52%); a 5.4/1.2 million T9-14 (+50%); a 5.5/1.9 million K2-11 (+53%); and 3.2 million total viewers (+41% in delivery).  (**Source: Nielsen Media Research Live + Same Day Data.)  Currently, the series online show page has garnered over 16 million total visits since launch in Jan. 2007.  The Naked Brothers Band-themed games on Nick.com have also generated over 75 million game plays, launch to date (Source: Omniture Sitecatalyst V 13.5 1/1/07 to 2/28/09) The band has sold over 380,000 albums combined.  Their sophomore release, “I Don’t Want To Go To School” enjoyed 10 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top Albums chart.

Inspired by the Wolff siblings’ real-life, preschool-born band, The Naked Brothers Band follows a world-famous rock group, chronicling their fame, friendship, temporary break-up and adolescent experiences.  The cameras track the charismatic rock stars led by dreamy, sensitive singer-songwriter Nat, 14, and energetic, unabashedly adorable drummer Alex, 11, on and off stage, focusing, too on their celebrity lifestyle with all of its perks and problems.  Featured as well are the Wolff boys’ real-life friends and band mates from pre-school days: cellist Thomas (Thomas Batuello) and keyboard player David (David Levi), along with guitarist Qaasim (Qaasim Middleton) and bassist --Nat’s crush-- Rosalina (Allie DiMeco).  Cooper (Cooper Pillot), the band’s pint-sized manager, completes the tween troop, and Jesse (Jesse Draper) is Nat and Alex’s ditzy tutor/babysitter and real-life cousin.

The series is created, executive produced, written and directed by Polly Draper (thirtysomething) who doubles as off-camera mom to Nat Wolff and Alex Wolff.  She is the recipient of the 2009 Writers Guild Award in the category of Children’s Episodic & Specials for the TV movie, “Polar Bears.”  Celebrated jazz musician/composer Michael Wolff (The Arsenio Hall Show) – the stars’ real-life dad and Draper’s husband -- keeps it all in the family but plays against type as the screen tweens’ musically inept father and serves as the series’ music supervisor/co-executive producer.  Along with Draper, Worldwide Biggies CEO Albie Hecht (The Rugrats Movie, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) serves as executive producer of the series in association with Nickelodeon Television.

Nickelodeon, now in its 30th year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does.
