Review of The Bucket List

The Bucket ListAlthough I may not have been excited about the subject of the movie, I was very excited to see this movie.  You have two extremely talented, even legendary, actors come together and put them together with Academy Award nominee Rob Reiner -- this is the makings of a great movie.

The plot of the movie is simple, if not sad for the premise of a comedy -- two "elderly" men meet in a hospital room that have both been prognosed with terminal cancer.  Both men start talking about the regrets they have in life for things they have never done.  They decide that regrets are are just that regrets, but they have time to set things right.  They make a list of these things that they have never done and go out and do it.  This leads to a number of great adventures shared by the two actors.

The two actors are so good and feed off of each other.  The movie is very funny and the jokes (both spoken and physical) keep on coming. It is well produced and directed.   My only criticism is that at points it does slow down a bit and you have to wait for the adventure to begin again.  A very good movie, however, it may not be seen as a classic by future crititcs regardless of the stellar cast.

In addition to the movie, the DVD also includes a number of great bonuses.  The featurette "Writing A Bucket List" with Justin Zackham, the sreenwrite for the movie, is a great compliment to the movie and provides some background to how and why the movie and some of the scenes were written.  Although unexpected, I also enjoyed the "Say" music video by John Mayer that is also included.

This is a highly recomended movie for just the plain enjoyment of it.
