Bolt (2008) [2009 Blu-Ray]

Plot of Bolt

Bolt, a TV/movie action hero believes that the world of the sound stage is real. When he is placed in the real world, to his dismay, he finds out that he does not have any of his super abilities.  However, he discovers that one does not need super powers to be a hero.

Review of Bolt

BoltBolt is a very amusing animated movie about a dog trying to find his master.  I was not immediately taken with the movie, but as soon as the adventure began where Bolt, a TV dog on an action/adventure show is placed into the real world after spending his life believing that he is, in fact, a super dog.  Bolt, voiced by John Travolta is looking for his owner Penny voiced by Miley Cyrus.  Although an unlikely pair, it is okey since most of the movie they are spent apart so "chemistry" is not an issue.  The plot is fairly simple and the dialog is cute.

To me the star of the show was Mittens the cat (voiced by Susie Essman) and Rhino a Hamster (voiced by Mark Walton) that act as traveling companions to Bolt in his cross-country trek to find Penny.  Their characters are both interesting, fun and well voiced.  I'm sorry to say that when I hear Penny speak, I hear Miley Cyrus, but Travolta does a fairly good job.  The story line is pretty good and holds your attention, although there are some unexpected twists and turns, it is mostly predictable, but in a "it should be like that" kind of way.  There were also some sad moments, like one scene in Las Vegas and the ending, but you have to wacth the movie to know what I mean. I also enjoyed the homage to Goodfeathers.

Bolt and Penny PictureWhat is great about watching Blu-Ray disks, and even though I have now watched many, it is still like a new technology, is that the images and sounds are crystal clear.  And the Blu-Ray releases have tons of bonus features.  To begin with, this package includes a DVD release and a digital copy in addition to the Blu-Ray.  Then there are bonus featurettes, such as the Super Rhino animated short (which is very good), music videos, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and art gallery and a whole lot more.

This is an very good bargain for a combo of a Blu-Ray, DVD & digital copy along with the tons of bonus featurettes for a movie that recieved a number of academy award nominations.
