Free Comic Book Day (FCBD)

This week on Saturday will be “Free Comic Book Day” (May 2nd).

“Free Comic Book Day” (FCBD) is an event held each year by the publishers and retailers of comic books. Publishers produce an issue specially for this day. Started in 2001, FCBD is typically held on the first Saturday of May. Also it usually coincides with the release of a comic book related movie. This year the movie that coincides with FCBD is the movie “Wolverine”.

This year DC is publishing a lead in comic to their big summer crossover event Blackest Night. Last year Marvel did much the same with a story featuring Spider-Man and his Brand New Day storyline. Most other comic companies use this event as a good jumping on point for new readers.

Other companies are also participating in FCBD such as: Dark Horse; Image; Archie; to name a few.

This is a good event to get yourself in a comic store if you have been absent from one for some time. Most stores are also running sales deal along with the free books. Each store has their own rules about how many free comics you can get. Please check or call your local comic book store for details.
