Review of Hold On
Tyrone Wells, may be the son of a preacher, but his songs don't preach religion, they preach the soul of music.  With themes such as love, jealousy, desire, depression, fame and personal loss, his gospel is one of love and joy of life.  After a few years with the pseudo-alternative rock band Skypark, Wells released his first self-titled album in 2001.  With a sophomore album (Snapshot) in 2003 and live album (Close: Live at McCain's) in 2005, he has become a huge hit on the campus circuit. In fact, he set a record in 2006 for most college and university bookings from a single showcase.

Each track is vaguely familiar, but unique in its own way.  The music on the album combines tastes of rock, soul and folk.  The words hit home like a huge Sunday breakfast -- delicious, sweet, filling and comfortable.  The accompaniments to the lyrics are some beautifully arranged and played musical tapestries weaved by Jason Lomheim (guitar), Aaron Bishop (bass), Mark Chipello (drums, percussion, Cajon) - with additional other musicians throughout.

Hold On is not just another album by a wanna-be song writer/singer.  Wells is the real deal and this may become an anthem for pop/rock/soul music for years to come.
