The Glass Passenger (2008)

Jack's Mannequin

Sire

Review of The Glass Passenger

This summer has brought me a number of really good albums to review, and Jack's Mannequin's album, The Glass Passenger is up there with them.  The music itself is cross between a more modern rock sound, with hints of some classic rock mixed in.

The album is solid all the way through with only minor bumps from the first track through the last.  However, for a young band, it is a lot better than some more veteran groups.  They have a really great song and the strong influence of the piano really adds to the sound.  The lyrics, at least for the songs you can hear them, are very well written with a touch of poetry in them.

My big criticism is the way in which some of the songs are overproduced with too much instrumentals that drown out the vocals, such as in "Annie Use Your Telescope."  He has a decent voice, not great, but not bad, so there is no reason to drown it out.

Overall it is a very good album and I have listened to it a few times and would recommend it to others.
